The blade has been ground on two angles, so it will smoothly cut through wood and will not unnecessarily damage the plant. Due to the unique shape of the hollow ground blade, the sap flows away from the blade and the blades will not come apart easily. The V-shape of the spring ensures that the cutting load is distributed evenly over the length of the spring which guarantees a smooth closing.
One of the most loved features of these secateurs is the large latch at the bottom of the handles. This allows the user to open and close the secateurs by brushing them against your thigh freeing up the other hand. The latch can be pressed into the inside of the handles so as to be completely out of the way.
The shears are constructed from a few components, so that there is hardly any maintenance required. It is recommended to clean the blades after use. After cleaning it is recommended to oil the shears and store moisture free with the cutting blades closed. If you notice that the shears are not cutting as well, you can grind them using the Okatsune whetstone (Okatsune 412)
The colour of the handles are designed so that you can see the red in daylight and the white at night time.
Japanese steel is hard and sharp and will chip if misused. Do not cut wire, metal, stone, plastic, or other hard material. Do not twist or apply uneven pressure. Cutting diagonally across branches will make it much easier for the secateurs than straight across the fibers.
